Nokia acquires US mobile analytics firm Motally for unidentified amount

Globally leading mobile phone supplier Nokia has recently announced that it has signed a contract acquire the US-based mobile analytics company, Motally. However, neither Nokia, not Motally has revealed the details regarding the deal or the financial transaction in this regard. According to an online report, the acquisition of Motally would enable Nokia to comprehend the manner in which people use the cell phone apps, along with the intermediary software on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and BlackBerry. Industry experts hypothesize that the transaction would be completed sometime through the third quarter of 2010. As per the terms of the deal, the Finland-based mobile phone giant has consented to carry on serving the present customers of Motally. In addition, Nokia also plans to accustom itself to the analytics code of Motally’s services for Qt, Meego, Symbian, and Java developers. However, the company did not provide any precise details regarding as to who would pull the data together or if they plan to trail music, app and map management prototypes on its personal Ovi service by using the services of Motally. It may be noted here that the analytics tools of Motally are useful in identifying carrier or user locations. For its part, Nokia plans to simplify this modus operandi for publishers as well as developers. Another report quotes Nokia vice-president (media) Marco Argenti saying that the latest acquisition strengthens Nokia's determination to provide in-application as well as mobile Web browsing analytics to the increasing, worldwide network of developers and publishers of Ovi. He said this would, in turn, facilitate partners to connect with their clients in an improved manner and enhance as well as and mould their services. Sanfransico-based Motally was founded in 2008 by an erstwhile Yahoo Mobile employee named Arte Merritt to accumulate and evaluate data on mobile gadgets. This is crucial for Nokia since it endeavors to offer more than Google and Apple in the war against these two Smartphone giants. Motally makes use of a patent-pending know-how to assemble the data, in-application tracking as well as and analytic reporting. In addition, it has submitted several applications for patents associated with its analytics technology and if they are approved, Nokia would acquire them too.
